In Uniondale, law firm forms crisis management group

At Uniondale-based Ruskin Moscou Faltischek (RMF), there is a new Crisis Management Practice Group. The group is chaired by David Durso, a partner of the firm, and Andrew Garbarino (not the congressman), who is of counsel at the firm.

The practice group offers a multidisciplinary approach, with experts who help develop strategies to effectively deal with crises, whether caused by internal or external events.

“Managing a crisis effectively requires a comprehensive strategy that goes beyond legal considerations,” Durso said in a news release about the new practice.

“Our team is committed to helping clients navigate complex situations while protecting their business and legal interests,” Durso added.

“Addressing a crisis requires both swift action and careful consideration of all potential risks,” Garbarino said in the news release.

The practice group works with clients to develop strategies to “handle events that may impact their business, with a focus on maintaining ongoing viability,” according to the news release. Such events can trigger criminal, regulatory and civil actions that can require a “multifaceted approach that considers both legal and non-legal repercussions.”

The group collaborates with experts in public relations, crisis communications, accounting and security to safeguard its clients’ legal rights, with the goal of “preserving legal privilege where possible,” according to the news release.

The RMF team includes former prosecutors, federal agents and seasoned attorneys. It handles complex litigation at the local, state, federal and international levels. In offering clients a comprehensive legal strategy, the team collaborates as needed with other practice areas at the firm.

Durso is a member of the firm’s Corporate & Securities and Health Law departments, as well as the firm’s White Collar Crime and Investigations, and Cybersecurity and Data Privacy practice groups. His clients include business owners, public and privately held companies and healthcare professionals seeking counsel on mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, government investigations, prosecutions and administrative proceedings as well as other matters. Prior to joining RMF, he served as an assistant district attorney in the Bronx.

Garbarino cochairs RMF’s White Collar Crime and Investigations practice, and is a member of the firm’s Health Law, Not-For-Profit, Blockchain, Securities, and Cybersecurity practice groups. His clients include corporations, hospitals, law firms, c-suite leaders, lawyers, bankers, law enforcement, and healthcare professionals facing allegations of criminal or professional misconduct. Garbarino has extensive experience with regulatory bodies, including the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and others. In addition to leading internal investigations for municipalities, hospitals and businesses, he has managed the response to cybersecurity breaches and data privacy incidents.
